I was at a wedding one day. In his message a preacher mentioned David, king of Israel. At the mention of him I was reminded of the revelation of his word and how He sees beyond the ordinary..
Our focus today is on the perspective of the following towards David: Jesse, his father; King Saul , Eliab, his brother oldest brother, and Almighty living God
1. Saul king of Israel
King saw an ordinary young man
King Saul saw David an ordinary child of Jesse 32.Then David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” 33 And Saul said to David,” You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from youth.“).NKJV. (1 Samuel 17:32-33).
Saul saw David as untrained soldier and not experience fighter who can fight Goliath.
Later he saw David as a threat to his Kingship or leadership
2. Jesse the father of David
Jessy sees an ordinary son in David
Jesse saw David as just any ordinary youngest son and allocated him to be taking care of his sheep. But David occasionally went and returned from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem. (1 Samurai 17:15) NKJV
Jesse took David as a very obedient or royal child (1 Samuel 17:16-20) among his eight (8) children.
3. Eliab The Brother Of David
This how Eliab saw his brother, David.
“Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was aroused against David, and he said, “Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the indolence of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.” Samuel 17: 28 NKJVI
Eliab saw David as;
- Not trustworthy as was given least job, a shepherd in the desert.
- An ordinary shepherd boy.
- A proud young boy who like to show-off
- A lazy boy.
4. God Sees a King (a Strong Leader)
God is the only one who saw David beyond all circumstances.
- God saw a very bold, skillful and focused leader who killed the Philistinian giant Goliath.
- God saw through David’s generation, birth of His only begotten Son- Jesus Christ.
- God saw David as a song writer, and worshipper the Psalmist; the writer of almost half of the book of Psalms of the holy Bible.
- God saw a strong giant protecting his people and what is entrusted in his care; demonstrated through the killing of a lion and bear which wanted to kill the sheep.
- God sees beyond shepherd a wise king Solomon through David who built His Temple.
